Error Code 20 - Pervasive Engine is not running

Error Code 20 - Pervasive Engine is not running

If you get Error 20 when starting up Sage Pastel Partner or Xpress, then it means your Pervasive Database Engine is not running or is not licensed.

There are a few things you can try to resolve this error.


This is not in any order and any one of these could rectify the issue:


  • Restart the computer (this will restart the Pervasive Database Engine).

  • Start the Pervasive Engine manually as follows:

Start

> All Programs
>> Pervasive 
>>> Engines
>>>> Start Workgroup Engine

  •  If any other Windows users share the same machine, you need to make sure they have logged out of their own account.

  • Open the License Administrator and check if there is a valid license (if it is blank please call support for assistance).
Start
> All Programs
>> Pervasive
>>> Utils
>>>> License Administrator

  • Ensure your Windows Account has administrator privileges so it can start the Pervasive Engine without security errors.


  • If Pastel is installed on a server and workstation(s) then make sure the connection to your server is running correctly (all mapped drives are connected, You can access shared folders).


  • Right click the desktop icon for Pastel and select 'properties'. Now ensure the 'Target' and 'Start in' boxes are correct.



If any of these do not help, please contact support as there may be an issue with the setup of your machine and it will need to be troubleshooted.
