When viewing a report, you get the message: Your System Has Unallocated Financial Categories

(Guide for Pastel Partner 14, but older versions will loosely follow the same method).

When you view certain reports ( like the Balance Sheet ) you may get this message if any of your General Ledger accounts do not have a financial category specified.

To view a full report of all accounts which are currently unassigned to a financial category, you can follow these steps.

  • Go to 'View > General Ledger > Listings > Accounts.

  • Now fill in the report filters as follows (One report for Balance Sheet accounts and one for Income Statement accounts).

  • With a clear list of all the General Ledger accounts with unassigned financial categories, you can now apply the correct financial category.
  • Go to 'Edit > General Ledger > Accounts'.

  • Now select the correct Financial Category for the account.

  • With all General Ledger accounts allocated with a Financial Category, you should be able to run any of the reports again now.

Unallocated Accounts

Note.  Pastel support cannot help you choose an appropriate category. If you enter the incorrect detailed financial category, you will generate inaccurate and misrepresentative financial reports. It is your responsibility, not Pastel's, to ensure that you select the correct financial category. We recommend that you consult your accountant to help you select the correct category.
